چکیده

A synchrotron X-ray microscope is a powerful imaging apparatus for taking high-resolution and high-contrast X-ray images of nanoscale objects. A sufficient number of X-ray projection images from different angles is required for constructing 3D volume images of an object. Because a synchrotron light source is immobile, a rotational object holder is required for tomography. At a resolution of 10 nm per pixel, the vibration of the holder caused by rotating the object cannot be disregarded if tomographic images are to be reconstructed accurately. This paper presents a computer method to compensate for the vibration of the rotational holder by aligning neighboring X-ray images. This alignment process involves two steps. The first step is to match the "projected feature points" in the sequence of images. The matched projected feature points in the x-θ plane should form a set of sine-shaped loci. The second step is to fit the loci to a set of sine waves to compute the parameters required for alignment. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms two previously proposed methods, Xradia and SPIDER. The developed software system can be downloaded from the URL, http://www.cs.nctu.edu.tw/~chengchc/SCTA or http://goo.gl/s4AMx.

Nanoscale characterization of local structures and defects in photonic crystals using synchrotron-based transmission soft X-ray microscopy

For the structural characterization of the polystyrene (PS)-based photonic crystals (PCs), fast and direct imaging capabilities of full field transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM) were demonstrated at soft X-ray energy. PS-based PCs were prepared on an O2-plasma treated Si3N4 window and their local structures and defects were investigated using this label-free TXM technique with an image acquisit...

Image reconstruction from sparse data in synchrotron-radiation-based microtomography.

Synchrotron-radiation-based microcomputed-tomography (SR-μCT) is a powerful tool for yielding 3D structural information of high spatial and contrast resolution about a specimen preserved in its natural state. A large number of projection views are required currently for yielding SR-μCT images by use of existing algorithms without significant artifacts. When a wet biological specimen is imaged, ...

Towards high-resolution synchrotron radiation imaging with statistical iterative reconstruction.

Synchrotron radiation (SR) X-ray micro-computed tomography (CT) is an effective imaging modality for high-resolution investigation of small objects, with several applications in medicine, biology and industry. However, the limited size of the detector field of view (FOV) restricts the sample dimensions to only a few millimeters. When the sample size is larger than the FOV, images reconstructed ...

Improvement of Image Quality in Transmission Computed Tomography Using Synchrotron Monochromatic X-Ray Sheet Beam

In the transmission CT imaging system with scintillator-CCD detector using synchrotron monochromatic x-ray as sheet beam, improvement of reconstructed image quality is investigated. The properties of experimental facilities cause the incident beam intensity to be spatially inhomogeneous, and to temporally attenuate. In order to achieve more reliable reconstruction, we propose the data-correctio...
